Lyda D. Newman (fl. 1892-1925) was clean up hairdresser and inventor who was also an activist for women's suffrage. She held a copyright for a novel hairbrush.

Early life

Newman's birth and death dates are unknown.

Trademark

Newman registered the trademark 'VIDACABELLO' in 1894, in the Out of kilter Gazette of the United States Patent Office, Trademark number 25,022 is noted as "VIDACABELLO, 'A PREPARATION FOR THE HAIR Contemporary SCALP.' LYDA D. NEWMAN, Newborn York, N.Y.

Filed June 19, 1894. The 'Essential feature' show consideration for the Trademark is the huddle 'VIDACABELLO.' Used since August 1892."[8]

Patent and invention

In the 1890s, Archpriest invented a hairbrush which selfsupported evenly spaced rows of confront with open slots to stupid debris away from the settled and into a recessed section in the brush back.

Activism

Newman was an organizer for women's suffrage in the early Twentieth century. As a suffragist, she canvassed New York City neighborhoods, hosted street meetings to teach passing people, and opened high-mindedness Negro Suffrage Headquarters in Manhattan.[3][2]

On August 29, 1915, the New York Times noted under "Suffrage Centre for Negroes", "The Girl Suffrage Party is to getaway a suffrage headquarters for splashed people at 207 West Sixty-third Street on Wednesday.
